Charlotte Ginsborg worked for Project Art Works on their Personal Profiles Project to create documentary portraits of two young adults with learning difficulties living in North London.
Project Description
The Personal Profiles Project facilitated creative collaborations between artists and 12 young people from Sussex and London during their transition from special school to adult care settings. The artists worked with the young people and their families and carers, social workers and schools to create highly individual and poetic ‘portraits’ using a variety of audio and visual media. These personal portraits gave an insight into who they are and how they perceive the world. The mixed media ‘portraits’ were used to help facilitate the transition process and person centred planning, engaging the young people on their own terms through creativity. The works created were produced in accessible formats such as DVDs and/or CD ROMs and complement other information about the young person such as the statutory care assessment, ‘passports’ and records of achievement produced by schools. The artworks and lessons of the project were disseminated through the project publication and as part of a national exhibition and symposium developed by Project Art Works called ‘Flux 2007 – art and change in the lives of people with complex impairments’.
